River Aesthetics is proud to be a certified partner of The National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP), offering you medical support, advice, education, and treatment options to help you on your weight loss journey.
Our Doctors will carry out a full assessment of your medical history and BMI before we confirm whether the weight management plan is viable for you.
The plan involves a weekly injection of Ozempic, this medication will work as an appetite suppressant. Delivery is via a pen and is virtually painless. Ozempic makes you feel less hungry, feel fuller quicker and fuller for longer. This should lead to significant weight loss.
Ozempic is similar to a hormone released after eating that makes you feel full and satisfied. Ozempic triggers areas of your brain mimicking your body’s natural hormone that controls your appetite, leaving you feeling less hungry and fuller, meaning you will eat less and in turn can result in you losing weight.
The Ozempic® pen (once weekly) uses an FDA approved prescription medication called
Semaglutide. Semaglutide is licensed to treat type-2 diabetes and prescribed to certain high-risk patients to aid weight loss under the trade name of Ozempic®. This is a once weekly injection that you can easily administer yourself, which we will show you how to use.
Ozempic mimics our body’s medical compound, (GLP-1) which is released from the intestine after a meal and it is 94% identical in morphology to our body’s own hormone, but with a much longer life span. By suppressing glucagon secretion, the body delays gastric emptying and stimulates glucose uptake by our muscles. In other words it suppresses our hunger, helps us to feel full for longer and enhances the way our body utilises the food we eat.
Ozempic has been shown to powerfully inhibit hunger and stimulate weight loss, which helps people to limit their risk of cardiovascular renal disease as well as reducing cancer risk. It should of course be used in conjunction with increasing activity levels and taking a low calorie diet. River also works with top nutritionalists and personal trainers who can provide programmes tailored to your goals.
As well as helping patients lose weight, prescription medication has shown in clinical studies to improve many cardiovascular co-morbidities, such as pre-diabetes, hypertension, high lipid levels and obstructive sleep apnoea.
The main reported side effects of Ozempic are nausea, vomiting, constipation and headache. These can be experienced in up to 10% of people, however the side effects do reduce and resolve over time.

The National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP), is a national service using FDA approved medication, whicch is licensed for weight management. The programme consists of a calorie controlled diet with the addition of a once weekly medication. You give this yourself using a tiny injection pen.
Many factors will affect your results, including your diet and fitness levels. On average people have lost around a stone (6.5kg) every 4-6 weeks.
We will discuss your options once you have achieved your target. Most people feel happy to maintain their lifestyle to manage weight regain. You do have the option of staying on a low maintenance dose to help with this.
Step 1
First, you will need to complete this online consultation form. This will help us to establish whether this medication would be appropriate for you. This consultation form will only take a few minutes to complete, and is encrypted and password protected to ensure your details are kept confidential.
Step 2
Your questionnaire will be reviewed by our Doctor and a consultation will be arranged to discuss your plan.
Step 3
If treatment is “approved”, we will take you through an informed consent process discussing risks & benefits, alternative treatments, potential side effects and how to manage these. We will carry out a full assessment of your medical history and BMI before a practical demonstration on how to use the pen takes place.
Step 4
We will prescribe your Ozempic pen and show you how to self administer the weekly injection (each pen contains 4 weekly treatments). This is easy for you to do once we have shown you how to use it.
Initially we will speak to you every week to check your weight and monitor your response to the medication.
Once you are settled on the medication, we will check your weight once a month and continue to prescribe the correct dose of medication for your weight loss goals. A doctor is there for you every step of the way to support you in your weight loss journey.
The needles are super fine and painless. The plan requires one injection a week, and we will show you how to administer the injection.
Yes, it is common to experience nausea initially, whilst your body adjusts to the medication. Some people also experience constipation and headaches. We will guide you through all of these unwanted effects.

Obesity is a treatable disease that is a worldwide health concern associated with having an excess amount of body fat. It is caused by genetic and environmental factors and can be difficult to control through dieting alone. Obesity is diagnosed by a healthcare provider and is classified as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater.
Obesity is related to increased risks of cancers of the oesophagus, breast (postmenopausal), endometrium (the lining of the uterus), colon and rectum, kidney, pancreas, thyroid, gallbladder, and possibly other cancer types. Several possible mechanisms have been suggested to explain the association of obesity with increased risk of certain cancers:
Fat tissue produces excess amounts of estrogen, high levels of which have been associated with the risk of breast, endometrial, and some other cancers.
Patients with obesity/overweight have increased levels of insulin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in their blood (a condition known as hyperinsulinemia or insulin resistance), which may promote the development of certain tumors.
Fat cells produce hormones, called adipokines, which may stime or inhibit cell growth. For example, leptin, which is more abundant in obesity , seems to promote cell growth, whereas adiponectin, which is less abundant in obesity, may have anti-growth effects.
Fat cells may also have direct and indirect effects on other markers related to growth of tumors.
Patients with obesity often have chronic low-level, or “subacute,” inflammation, which has been associated with increased cancer risk.
