FAQ

Where can Silhouette Thread Lifts be used?

Silhouette Soft can be used to treat and contour various parts of the face, including the:

  • Lower jaw
  • Cheeks
  • Neck
  • Eyebrows

Are the threads visible after the treatment?

No. Following insertion the threads are under the skin and not visible unlike other previous thread treatments have been in the past.

What age would you recommend having a Silhouette thread lift?

At River Aesthetics we believe you can have a thread lift at any age to treat mild to moderate laxity that is causing gravitational descent of the tissues.

Patients in their 30s or 40s who are starting to notice a loss of definition along the jawline, or the development of folds around the nose and mouth, are excellent candidates for the procedure. We can achieve a natural lifting of the tissues, avoiding the excessive volume or ‘pillow face’ look associated with overfilling with dermal fillers.

Patients in their 50s and 60s are also great candidates for face and neck-lifting with threads, as long as they are in good health and don’t have excessive laxity of the skin associated with heavy smoking and sun damage.

If there is thinning of the skin or loss of volume in the face, to achieve the best results this needs to be corrected first, ideally using an injectable collagen stimulator, such as Ellanse, prior to lifting with Silhouette Soft.

Dr Woodward and Dr Manning have pioneered the use of combination treatments with collagen stimulation and Silhouette Soft thread lifting which they have named T’he River Lift’ .

How long do the results last?

The effects last up to 18 months. We will see you for a review at 2 weeks post treatment and 3 month post treatment.

How does the treatment work?

Silhouette Soft threads are made of a clear, absorbable material of polylactic acid, which dissolve and help stimulate your skin’s own collagen production. These threads are inserted under the skin using a fine needle – without the need for incisions – to elevate the sagging tissue and lift problem areas.

Only a small local anaesthetic is needed at the entry and exit points of the threads. Once the thread has been inserted, we apply slight compression to the tissue to reshape it and obtain the desired lifting effect. The non-inserted ends of the thread are then cut. The treatment takes around 1.5 hours with 30 minutes for the pre consultation. Needle to skin time is very quick. Most patients find this treatment an enjoyable experience with some even falling asleep. There may be a little discomfort from the anaesthetic but then it is a pretty pain free procedure.

How long until I see the full results?

Following the initial lift of the skin and tissues, there will be a gradual improvement of the result over the first 12 weeks, as new collagen is formed, resulting in tighter, firmer and smoother skin.

Is recovery time needed?

Downtime after a thread lift treatment is minimal.

However, as with all cosmetic procedures, you may experience some very slight bruising or swelling in the days following the procedure and some mild tension in the areas that have been elevated. But, other than that, there is no muscular restriction or recovery time needed.

During the first two weeks after treatment you should not undergo dental surgery and you must avoid facial and beauty treatments. We recommend that you avoid any impact exercise for two weeks after the treatment, and advise you to sleep on your back and slightly elevated) during that time. You should also be gentle when cleansing your face.
