3 Ways To Transform Your Nose Without a Rhinoplasty

A decade ago, the only way to correct an out-of-proportion nose was to go under the knife. A surgical rhinoplasty involves general anaesthetic, roughly 2 hours of surgery in which the surgeon adjusts the bone and cartilage beneath the skin, a big old tell-tale splint bandage (no chance of “I just woke up like this!” working here), a week or so of downtime, and a price tag in the thousands. We hear you – there’s got to be another way!

Despite the upheaval, there’s a reason the rhinoplasty is one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries in the UK (it was the no. 1 most popular surgery among men in 2018). The effect the nose has on the holistic facial appearance is extraordinary, especially when viewing the face in profile. A proportional, well-balanced nose adds symmetry, balance, and definition. It can correct lumps, bumps, and asymmetries that may have caused patients a lifetime of self-consciousness.

In this article we’re exploring a couple of ingenious methods that give our patients their dream nose without the disruption. They can be done in under a lunch break, no splint needed – we promise!

Dermal fillers for the nose

Dermal fillers are an incredibly quick, simple, painless, and cost-effective way to contour your nose and boost your confidence. Many patients try dermal fillers before they take the plunge into permanent surgery, but some feel the results are so brilliant they don’t feel the need to trade up.

The process of injecting HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers is sometimes referred to as a fluid or non-surgical rhinoplasty, due to the results being almost as dramatic as a surgical rhinoplasty. The main difference is that they last around a year rather than a lifetime, are a fraction of the price, and utilise a substance that occurs naturally in the body.

Fillers can be applied in a bespoke, and case-by-case manner to suit your features. They can smooth out bumps when applied above and below the bridge, make the nose appear thinner and more delicate when applied to the tip, and even create a ‘tip lift’, which gives the nose a youthful, upturned, Disney-esque look. In the hands of an expert practitioner, dermal fillers are arguably the most versatile, customisable way to achieve your ideal nose.

If you’re feeling experimental…

Yoga has expanded into various forms, including aerial yoga, goat yoga, and beer yoga. Now, people are claiming that ‘nose yoga’ can reshape the nose without surgery. Facial exercises are nothing new, and performing various stretches and contortions for 30 minutes a day has been shown to result in some changes in firmness and cheek fullness. Our noses, however, are made largely of bone and cartilage. The small muscles that support them don’t have much bearing on the shape or structure, so we’d highly recommend spending 30 minutes on a session with us once a year over 30 minutes of nose yoga every day!

Not ready for cosmetic enhancement?

You can contour your nose at home for a straighter bridge and narrower tip. Using a contour cream 2 to 3 shades darker than your skin tone, draw a thin line down either side of the bridge, one across the tip, and one underneath the tip. Use a highlighter around 1-2 shades lighter than your average skin tone to fill in the gaps, and blend. This won’t have much effect from the side view, but face on and in photos, can make a difference.
