Polynucleotides

Discover the Power of Polynucleotides for Skin Rejuvenation

Enhanced tissue repair

Stimulates cell proliferation and promotes the regeneration of damaged tissues. This can contribute to the healing of wounds, the reduction of scars, and the overall improvement of skin texture.

Scars - how can Polynucleotides help? River Aesthetics

Anti-inflammatory properties

They possess anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce redness, swelling, and irritation in the skin. This can be beneficial for individuals with inflammatory skin conditions or after certain cosmetic procedures.

Increased collagen production

Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. They stimulate collagen synthesis, leading to improved skin elasticity and firmness. This effect may help in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

Collagen - River Aesthetics

Instead of providing an immediate boost in collagen and elastin or temporarily ‘plumping’ the skin like hyaluronic-based skin boosters and dermal fillers, polynucleotides serve as catalysts for regenerating fibroblasts, the key cells within the skin’s structural matrix. The product is efficiently absorbed by the skin, triggering the production of new cells. While ageing is an ongoing process, polynucleotides have the remarkable ability to rewind the clock in the treated areas.

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are long chains of DNA. Sourced from ethically sourced salmon or trout sperm. These highly purified fragments of DNA are suspended in water and available as an injectable. It’s important to clarify that we’re working exclusively with small fragments of DNA. Through rigorous clinical filtration and ultra-purification, any trace of ‘matter’ is entirely removed. This means that even individuals with fish allergies can safely use polynucleotides, as clinical trials have not reported any allergic reactions thus far. It’s worth mentioning that no salmon are harmed in the process of obtaining their DNA.

Polynucleotides have emerged as a game-changer in the world of skin rejuvenation, due to their potential benefits for improving skin health and appearance. Here’s why:

Collagen Revival:

Polynucleotides kickstart collagen production, the key to skin’s firmness and elasticity. As we age, collagen production decreases. By rejuvenating collagen synthesis, they help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, giving your skin a more youthful appearance.

Skin hydration:

With their exceptional hydrating properties, Polynucleotides enhance moisture levels in your skin. Ideal for those with dry or dehydrated skin, this ensures a smoother and healthier complexion.

Anti-inflammatory Benefits:

Say goodbye to skin irritation. Polynucleotides have anti-inflammatory properties that calm and soothe your skin. No more redness, swelling, or irritation – just a more even-toned complexion.

Speedy Healing:

Polynucleotides are your skin’s best friend when it comes to wound healing. They promote tissue regeneration, reducing the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars and other types of skin damage, helping your skin recover faster.

Antioxidant Armour:

Polynucleotides act as antioxidants, shielding your skin from environmental stressors. By neutralising free radicals, they help keep premature aging at bay, maintaining a youthful and healthy look.

It’s important to note that while polynucleotides show promise in skin rejuvenation, more research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms of action and long-term effects. As with any skincare treatment, it’s recommended to consult with Dr Manning or Dr Woodward to determine the most appropriate and effective approach for your specific needs.

FAQ

What can Polynucleotides help to treat?

Polynucleotides can be used to treat:

  • Acne
  • Atrophic scarring
  • Eye bags, dark circles and crows feet
  • Rosacea
  • Elastosis
  • Alopecia/hair loss
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Deep lines & wrinkles
  • Rehydration for dull skin at any age
  • Holistic skin revitalisation to combat general signs of ageing
  • Preparation and recovery pre/post procedures and surgeries (medical & aesthetic)

How long does the treatment take?

15 – 30 minutes

When will I see results?

You’ll start to see results immediately from the tissue tightening after your first treatment, with the full effects after your second treatment visible at around 12 weeks. We recommend maintenance treatments around 6 months.  In patients with more severe signs we often recommend a course of 3 treatments every 2 weeks.

By doing so, we maintain continued, active stimulation of fibroblast production, maximising short and long-term results.

Contraindications to treatment

Polynucleotide (PN) facial treatments involve the use of a biocompatible material derived from nucleic acids, like DNA or RNA, to improve the appearance and health of the skin. While these treatments are generally considered safe and well-tolerated, there are certain contraindications that should be considered before undergoing PN facial treatments. It’s important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional before proceeding with any cosmetic procedure to ensure its suitability for your specific situation.

Here are some common contraindications to PN facial treatments:

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
  • Hypersensitivity or Allergy to PN Products: Individuals with a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to polynucleotide-based products should not undergo PN facial treatments to prevent adverse reactions.
  • Fish allergy
  • Acute or Chronic Skin Infections: Patients with active skin infections, such as bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, should not receive PN facial treatments until the infection is completely resolved to avoid exacerbation or complications.
  • Open Wounds, Lesions, or Burns: PN facial treatments should not be performed on individuals with open wounds, lesions, or burns in the treatment area, as this may lead to further irritation, infection, or delayed wound healing.
  • History of Keloid or Hypertrophic Scarring: individual’s risk and carefully consider the potential benefits and risks.
  • Autoimmune Disorders or Immune System Disorders: People with autoimmune disorders or compromised immune systems may have altered healing responses and may not be suitable candidates for PN facial treatments.
  • Active Cancer: Patients with active cancer and undergoing cancer treatments (e.g., chemotherapy, radiation therapy) should avoid PN facial treatments due to potential interference with the cancer treatment outcomes and the risk of cancer recurrence.
  • Active Skin Disorders or Dermatological Conditions: Patients with active skin disorders or dermatological conditions in the treatment area, such as eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis, should avoid PN facial treatments until their skin condition is under control.

Always consult with a qualified healthcare provider or dermatologist to discuss your medical history and potential contraindications before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, including PN facial treatments.

Are there any side effects?

You may have tiny blebs just visible, which is where the product has been left on your skin. This will dissipate over a few hours but may take longer. You may also experience mild swelling around delicate areas such as eyes and neck. Bruising is also a possibility

  • Avoid touching or washing your face for 4 hours
  • Avoid make-up for 12 hours
  • Avoid any other facial treatments for 72 hours

Whose DNA is being used in Polynucleotide treatments?

The DNA we utilise is sourced from salmon, and it’s intriguing how closely it resembles human DNA. However, it’s essential to clarify that we’re working exclusively with small fragments of DNA.

How long do they last?

Polynucleotides stand apart from hyaluronic-based skin boosters and dermal fillers. Instead of providing an immediate boost in collagen and elastin or temporarily ‘plumping’ the skin, polynucleotides serve as catalysts for regenerating fibroblasts, the key cells within the skin’s structural matrix. The product is efficiently absorbed by the body, triggering the production of new cells. While aging is an ongoing process, polynucleotides have the remarkable ability to rewind the clock in the treated areas.

Where can they be injected?

Polynucleotides have been shown to improve skin texture and function.

They are suitable for any area of the skin including the scalp for hair re-growth.

Small areas such as the under-eye, forehead, or mouth area can be targeted or the whole face.

They can be used to target the neck and decolletage rejuvenation tackling multiple issues.

Loose skin on the abdomen, above the knees, or inner arms.

Polynucleotides are often favoured, as it does not cause water retention like hyaluronic acid. For instance, in the under-eye area, polynucleotides can help improve skin strength and integrity.

A consultation would need t be booked to discuss problem areas and what course of treatment is best for you.
