Menopausal Skin Condition
We all know that the skin ages as we grow older, but this unfortunately can be accelerated for women around the time of the menopause . We see a large number of menopausal women who are trying to delay this acceleration and keep their youthful appearance natural, without looking like they have had anything ‘done’.
Bone shrinkage and remodelling leads to volume loss and the skin therefore loses its structural support, fat is lost and redistributed causing volume loss and this changes the contours of the face, leading to deep creases and folds. Muscles shrink and contract, causing fat displacement and sagging, the upper layer of the skin thins due to collagen loss, which causes a reduction in skin elasticity and hydration.
Subsequently, ageing skin is thinner, dryer and more prone to wrinkles, sagging and increased pigmentation. A drop in oestrogen levels, associated with the menopause, causes a loss of elasticity, which worsens already sagging skin. For exceptional results River Aesthetics recommend using Bioidentical Hormone Therapy (BHT).
